Protect lemurs. Empower women. Further science.
Our programs have three main focuses which include: scientific research and conservation of lemurs, humanitarian development for people living next to lemur habitats, and capacity building in Malagasy early career researchers who will work in conservation. We believe that these three programs conserve Madagascar's biodiverse habitats, promote dignity and wellbeing of humans, and develop the skills of Madagascar's next generation of conservationists.
Southern Madagascar, where our field and humanitarian programs are, is currently experiencing the world's first climate change induced famine. Additionally, Madagascar's borders remain closed to foreign tourists as a result of COVID-19, which means there is no tourism revenue. Our aim during this difficult time is to conserve nature and promote humans wellbeing.
Our work addresses many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030 including: no poverty (SDG 1), zero hunger (SDG 2), quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), affordable clean energy (SDG 7), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), and life on land (SDG 15), peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17).
